5 Best Digital Marketing Jobs: Get Rid of Your 9-5 and Go Remote

The 5 Best Digital Marketing Jobs (Entry-Level to Advanced)

For anyone new to tech and its wonders, getting a digital marketing job is a perfect way to put your foot into the industry. As everyone’s heard, the key to success is PRACTICE.

Once you have a job in marketing, whether its entry level or advanced, you can get right into learning new skills and concepts.

I’ll be telling you what exactly digital marketing is and the different digital marketing jobs that are just the right fit for you.

Getting Started with a Digital Marketing Job

Not everyone needs to study digital marketing, or really any marketing, to get started in the tech industry.

But sure, a degree in marketing or some sort of tech is definitely beneficial.

My beginnings in digital marketing were anything but what would be deemed successful. That included a course from Udemy about Google Ads and PPC (Pay-per-Click) Advertising that I tried to study.

After the course, I worked in my spare time as a freelancer trying to get a nice digital marketing job since I felt like I knew all about it already.

I was sadly mistaken.

Employers want people with a set of skills that are worth paying a salary for, and that definitely requires a strong mind and skillset which most, including myself, don’t have a combo of.

This doesn’t come in a couple of days, or weeks, or even months, and especially not after one 25+ hour long video course online.

As I did my research and delved deeper into the depths of digital marketing, talking with veterans and startups, new ideas and concepts were revealed to me, which I’ll reveal to you:

The digital world is evolving. It’s pretty obvious, just look at you right now, reading this on an electronic piece of technology.

An evolving world of technology and markets, the companies evolving with the trend need people to manage their campaigns and expand their marketing outreach.

This calls for, you know it, digital marketers.

It’s easier than ever before to find a job in and work in the tech industry.

Just do a quick search and you’ll be guaranteed to find some sort of open position.

Even entry-level digital marketers have a HUGE range of selections to choose some, with many new digital marketing jobs becoming “legitimate” jobs by the day.

Think about it, doesn’t seem too hard does it? Getting a job in digital marketing is an idea that you won’t regret in the near future.

In fact, there’s plenty of perks including getting to work remotely from home. Who wants to work a 9-5 job in an office?

Sure you could still have a boss but digital marketing jobs can certainly be taken by freelancers and those “bosses” would be clients, sounds a lot better right?

Another perk is that in addition to working at home, you get to earn more than your 9-5 job friends.

If you don’t think that’s a deal, then try out a digital marketing job and see for yourself.

What Exactly is Digital Marketing Though?

Digital marketing is quite literally marketing digitally.

This includes making campaigns for businesses and companies that want to put their products and/or services out into the world via an electronic device, the internet, or media.

These marketing efforts are used to leverage digital channels to connect with possible customers and keep those customers in their spheres of influence.

In this year of 2020, digital marketing is still rising in its importance and effectiveness in getting the public to know the brand and wanting to connect with it.

In your digital marketing job, the role may include:

  • Sending batches of emails
  • Writing content and posts
  • Internet Ads
  • Creating Ad Campaigns
  • Promoting on Social Media

But that’s not it.

There’s simply too many ways for companies to hire digital marketers to expand their outreach now.

And you’ll want to find your strengths and make them even stronger so that you’ll be able to land the digital marketing job you want.

You want to stand out. I know everyone says this, but it’s true.

Where Can You Find Entry-Level (Or Any Level) Digital Marketing Jobs ?

As I’ve said, the number of digital marketing jobs are rising by the day which means that open opportunities are becoming even more open.

Here’s a small list of where you can find jobs in tech whether you’re a freelancer or looking to work for a company or agency:

  • Upwork
  • FlexJobs
  • Freelancer
  • Mashable
  • Indeed

These are just a few of the abundant amount of sites where digital marketing jobs lay in abundance just waiting to get picked up.

Just a quick tip to make the most of your time and digital marketing sanity, I recommend finding a good relationship with a client on one of the platforms.

So that they’ll want to hire you for more tasks and naturally, the pay will be raised.

That’s nice, isn’t it?

Requirements for ANY Digital Marketing Jobs

Since you’ve made it this far, I’d like to congratulate you on your interest in digital marketing.

But sadly, it’s a common saying that you should never celebrate too early.

So here’s the requirement list for anyone looking for a digital marketing job.

My apologies, but this is just how life is.

But the catch is that you can change your life by taking in what I’ve told you and applying it!

1. KNOW YOUR CUSTOMERS!

I really can’t stress this enough; these customers are the very ones you will be depending on for your success!

If you want to be successful at your digital marketing job, you’re going to NEED to know

  • who your customers are
  • what they want
  • their buyer intent
  • how they’re going to get what they want
  • why they want it

These are in no specific order. Your knowledge of each plays an integral role in determining your digital marketing prowess.

You’ll need to use these clues to figure how you will target customers.

2. Do RESEARCH on Your Customers (Potential AND Current)

You need to know how to hit the customers at their soft points (no harm intended!) and know when to put forth your marketing tactics into the customer channel.

Another thing you need to keep in mind if you’re looking to do a digital advertising and search engine optimization job is the “Searcher’s Intent.”

The term pretty much states what it is, you need to know the intention of the customer searching for the product, term, or review.

3. OPTIMIZATION

Look at the situation as if you were the boss or client. Where would you want the money on customer outreach to go?

Let it be wasted on advertising that’s never going to succeed? Into buying an extra coffee for your employees? (That would be nice though)

The point is, as a digital marketer, you need to be able to optimize, or conserve, every single dollar spent from your employer.

Nothing is to go to waste, whether it is used to buy ad space from Google, Facebook, or content on other websites.

Even if you’re looking for a digital marketing job that doesn’t rely as heavily on spending on outreach like something along the lines of an SEO job, which I’ll get into later, you still have TIME on the line.

As it is said,“time is money.”

These skills and requirements will be applied to your work, in any digital marketing job, in different ways depending on what type of marketer you are within your client’s company or bosses’ business.

But all in all, this information is absolutely crucial in obtaining these potential customers and keeping those valuable customers within your company’s reach.

And it’ll help you keep your job if you do it right.

The Best Digital Marketing Jobs for All Levels

Finally, we’re here at the most waited segment of this article.

No matter if you’re just a step into the digital marketing industry or if you’re a veteran looking for another job, I’ve got the list for you, along with their descriptions.

These might sound common, but hey, as I’ve been mentioning, this field’s importance is on the rise with more and more technology being available for customer use and for businesses to promote themselves and market their products and services.

The digital marketing jobs listed include the average salaries posted from Indeed and are (almost) in no particular order.

The listed salaries merely averages and really don’t speak for the majority of those who hold these jobs due to the fact that digital marketing jobs are largely done by agencies and freelancers that can earn from a few thousand dollars a year to millions.

It’s a pretty big range isn’t it?

But as you gain more experience in whatever digital marketing aspect you specialize in, you can naturally charge more for your services.

1. PPC Account/Campaign Manager – $60,094 per year

We’ll start this list of the best digital marketing for techies of all levels with PPC Managers simply because this is what I attempted first.

Just a little tribute to myself, hope you don’t mind.

Anyways, a PPC Account/Campaign Manager holds a position in digital marketing that is invaluable to companies and businesses that have a separate budget to spend on paid advertisements.

These managers are required to have the ability to conduct and run campaigns as well as have an extensive knowledge of Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and knowing how the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS) works.

Paid Ad Campaigns usually include Search (appear at the top and bottom of search engines like Google) and display ads (which appear on websites as banners and tend to follow people’s search histories, yeah, they stalk you).

These tend to have higher conversion rates relative to other types of paid advertisements, which all businesses owners would love to have.

But between paid Search and paid Display Ads, it certainly would help to keep in mind that Search Ads tend to work a LOT better for MOST companies, although there may be certain instances when Display Ads would be better.

But that’s largely up to the client or boss unless you’ve managed to convince them of your trustworthiness with potentially millions of dollars of ad spend money.

Simply put, the job involves working with content and designer teams in or outside of the company to create display or search ad campaigns.

And creating and analyzing PPC Campaigns and testing different keywords and improving campaigns as data is received and analyzed.

2. SEO Specialist – $53,038 per year

For starters, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.

If you’re here looking at this article, I assume you have a little idea of what this is because the name literally says what someone holding this digital marketing role should be doing:

Optimizing for search engine results pages (SERPS).

This marketing job is tied hand in hand with the SERPS.

An SEO Specialist sets up a company’s site so that customers can search for certain keywords in search engines like Google and Bing and the site appears.

This allows the company to be able to make sells and connect with customers.

Sounds easy, but like I’ve repeatedly said, the internet and technology is evolving as businesses evolve with the trend and keywords become more and more competitive.

Back in 2007, it was relatively easy to rank a site for a couple of niche keywords with sub-standard quality marketing content, but (unfortunately, I assume) times have changed.

It requires a lot of SEO skill and practice in the field to be able to track keywords your client or boss wants to appear in SERPS for.

Although an aspiring SEO Specialist can expect to bring in a bit of traffic, someone who has expertise in tools like Google Analytics (free), SemRush, Moz, Ahrefs, and other tracking tools for SEO will be considered first.

But don’t worry, there are a multitude of freelancing sites that are always flooding with listings asking for the services of relatively beginner SEO specialists.

Again, digital marketing job opportunities are on the rise and won’t fall any time soon.

3. Marketing Manager – $70,606 per year

This job is sort of general because a marketing manager doesn’t necessarily work with just digital marketing, but other sources of marketing the company or client may have.

These sources include managing the marketing of a business or products that may certainly have a digital marketing aspect but this job doesn’t really focus on the technical side.

The requirements for any digital marketing job still apply to Marketing Managers though because marketing managers must analyze trends and demand for whatever products and services the company or business offer.

This role typically involves more communication than others because of the collaboration required with other financial staff and advertising companies they will make connections and market with.

There are different type of digital marketing managers such as those that reach out with email (email marketers) and sales marketers who work with email lists and campaigns, respectively.

4. Partnership Marketer – Salary Depends

Ah, partnership marketers, the “popular” folk.

This digital marketing role includes influencers who promote some company’s products and services to their fan following on social media to gain either a service in return or a commission (more likely).

Partnership marketers can also be affiliates who work with the company but largely promote the company’s products on their own blogs or websites.

In addition to being an influencer and affiliate, a partnership marketer manages and analyzes their max possible Return on Investment (ROI) whether the investment is time or a post.

Some partnership marketers will speak at large conferences hosted by large industries within their niche, or specific sphere of influence, to promote themselves as a potential promoter of a company’s products.

That was kind of confusing, but I’m sure you get it.

Though the potential to earn big as a partnership marketer is high, this usually takes the most time out of the digital marketing jobs on this list.

This is because partners usually need to build a large following before earning much money (who wouldn’t want to do that?).

5. Social Media Manager – $53,954 per year

This digital marketing role is also quite literally what the name suggests.

You manage the company or client’s social media outreach and connections to potential and existing customers.

I’m going to be honest, this job really sounds dumb, but the skills with social media platforms and amount of customer analysis and research required is quite a bit actually.

You’ll be working with other managers within the company including ad managers and, more than likely, graphic designers that will create the graphics for posts and social media content.

Just a suggestion, some companies hire social media managers to create and maintain a community on platforms like Facebook to connect with potential customers.

This provides an easy way to promote the content and services of the company and brand.

This also allows for members of the group to attract a larger following and promotion of your company.

Start Grinding Your New Remote Job

I’d like to congratulate you once again for getting to the end of this article, but again, my apologies, this is only the beginning.

BUT, you are now in the position to look for your first or next digital marketing job!

Start looking for your job, whether you’re cold calling a company or freelancing. Make connections ASAP!

These connections are essential to your success as a digital marketer because you are the key to the lock the company holds.

If you don’t land a full-time job immediately, don’t worry, just keep working part-time on an entry-level job.

Sooner than later, you’ll build up your list of items on your portfolio and resume which is sure to land you an advanced digital marketing job!

Just a few projects and you’ll be making the money you’ve always dreamed of, without having some sort of degree you took years to earn.

Heck, a degree in tech doesn’t really even give you a digital marketing job if you don’t have any experience.

If you want to improve your digital marketing skills quicker, just connect with others in your field, join some networks that others are in.

Digital marketing jobs are the type that really can’t hurt you even if you don’t succeed, you’ll learn valuable consumer outreach skills which will certainly help in any sort of future job you’ll have.

I don’t care if you still consider yourself entry-level, just start grinding some projects and you’ll have a full bank sooner than you know it.

And you get to work at home.

I wish you the best of luck

Peace.
